Pinterest drive on- and off-platform engagement using Pincodes

“We needed experts in custom scannable codes. We found Quikkly and we haven’t looked back.”

- Product Director, Pinterest

Pinterest were looking to implement a quick way for consumers to link from real world items to Pins. Scanning was the obvious method, but QR codes were too ugly and a poor fit with the Pinterest brand. Pinterest considered building a solution in-house but chose leading scanning experts Quikkly for a custom solution that could be deployed rapidly. Using our patented technology, Quikkly worked with Pinterest designers to bring the concept to life - an attractive, scalable and performant code design known as the Pincode. In just a few months, Quikkly delivered a solution to Pinterest with a custom code design and slimline SDK ready to integrate into one of the most popular apps in the world.

Since launch, Pinterest made Pincodes available to their brand partners and users alike to generate codes on demand and Pinterest have seen strong demand from brands and usage from consumers in many territories. Pincodes have a unique circular code format, with playful multi-colored dots surrounding a brand logo, product image or user profile picture. These human-friendly elements mask a high-tech machine-readable code, with each Pincode representing a unique object in the Pinterest network. (Yes, the Quikkly platform can reference quintillions of objects!)

Using the Quikkly Server Module for batch Pincode generation for brands, Pinterest provided users with the ability to generate their own friendly, customized Pincodes in-app. And with the Quikkly SDK in the Pinterest app, Pinterest users simply open the camera in their app to be able to engage directly with Pincodes wherever they appear.

Since launch, together we’ve been bringing new updates and enhanced capabilities (e.g. scanning on curved surfaces) to users since then.
